'Ellen Foster' -- she's a Mighty Girl!
Hi - forgive me if I've missed this book in your truly incredible collection here, but have you ever read 'Ellen Foster' by author Kaye Gibbons? This character is truly a Mighty Girl to me! Has anyone read this book?

Hi Carolyn & Aaron, thanks for your great work and labor of love!
I am directing the creation of a new series of books, called the Guardian Princesses, that will transform the representation of princesses as leaders who take action to protect their people and the planet. Our stories promote racial, ethnic and gender diversity and taking care of the environment for future generations.
www.guardianprincesses.com
Since our goals are shared, we would like to ally with you believing that our books will contribute to the lack of racial and cultural diversity in books about "independent princesses." Our first books series introduce an Latina, African, East Asian, European, Indigenous, Mixed Race and South Asian…1 vote -
Nomination of a film
Thank you for your website. I am a film scholar, and particularly interested in the messages that specifically animated films communicate to young viewers regarding gender. While I have noticed "Kiki's Delivery Service" and "Princess Mononoke" listed on this site, I suggest that you consider adding "My Neighbour Totoro" by the same director, Hayao Miyazaki - it is another example of his empowering depiction of young female protagonists, and a particularly charming film for very young viewers (although not exclusively).

Post info about this great group (and add to your Pinterest list of resources)
Saw them in DC - awesome! Their dance performances come with "rap-like" affirmations of girl power - watch some of the videos from their webpage or facebook site. http://www.taratibu.org/

Religious-ethnic diversity in Bios
Thanks for your fantastic Biography list. As a Jewish woman of middle-east/north african heritage with Ethiopian-Isreali Jewish and Ugandan Jewish and Indian Jewish friends, I'd sure love to see more books about creative & courageous Jewish girls and women who are NOT of Northern- / Eastern-European heritage. And even more basic, why are the vast majority of your bios of jewish females strictly about/from the Holocaust?? Important and inspiring as their stories are, there is so much more to Jewish-female history than the Holocaust, and it's actually problematic to present kids with images of Jewish life and people so focused…

Recommended tv shows
I would like to suggest the Transformers Prime and Teen Titans shows for their strong and interesting female characters. My daughter enjoys Arcee from the Transformers show and both Starfire and Raven from Teen Titans. What's really good though, is that her brothers really like the characters too.

book recommendation
My daughter found a book in the library called "A Book" by Gerstein Mordicai. It is about a family in a book. Each member of the family has their own story, but the little girl doesn't know what her story is about. She goes through the book learning about the different types of stories out there (and ruling them out) until she realizes she wants to write her own story. I really enjoyed the story line and thought it belonged on your list of recommended books.

Book suggestion
Hello,
I've been a fan of A Mighty Girl for a while, and I recently wrote a book called Natasha the Ninja Princess that fits the Mighty Girl ethos. I was wondering if you (or any of your fans) might be interested in a free review copy of the book, either digital or print. If so, please let me know!
Thank you for creating this site- I have a 5 year old daughter (for whom I wrote the book), and it's great to see a site that celebrates girls' strength and smarts.
Thank you,

Bubble Guppies
You should add the show Bubble Guppies to your animated list for TV. The girl characters participate in representing jobs and activities that most shows choose boy characters for. I.e. For the rock and roll episode, the three girl characters formed a band.

Another 'to be added' -- Astronaut: Living In Space
Hi Mighty Girl,
I just ran across "Astronaut: Living in Space" by Kate Hayden. It's a creative non-fiction DK Reader all about the daily life of an astronaut -- and the shocking thing is that although the astronaut happens to be female, the story is just about being an astronaut! No pink space suit, no high-heel space boots -- just a smart, competent female character, starring in a story that could appeal to any child. The fact that this was a 'surprise' find for me is proof that we need A Mighty Girl -- perhaps it will pass your scrutiny…

Book Suggestion
Ella's Big Chance: A Jazz Age Cinderella is a great retelling of the traditional Cinderella tale. It's beautifully written and illustrated, and the main character makes her own destiny. It deserves a spot on your Fairy Tales list!

I just bought five books through MG today
As a dad to two mighty girls, 4 and 6, I have to say, you are providing a critical service to all parents and supporters of mighty girls everywhere.
There is no resource more precious or force as powerful as a Mighty Girl. Thank you for helping me be a better parent.1 vote -
Book/Author suggestion: Shelby Bach
I think the Shelby Bach books Of Giants and Ice, and Of Witches and Wind, should be considered for the list of books that feature Mighty Girls.

links to your past blog posts
Hi,
I see amightygirl posts on facebook, and I liked the "10 Mighty Girl Film Favorites for a Snow Day!" post.
Now, supposing I hadn't seen that, and I was at http://www.amightygirl.com looking for something to do with my daughter (and supposing that the "LATEST BLOG POST" links had moved on to newer things). I click on the "Movies / TV" tab, and I can see all the movies broken down by age range, but nothing the Movies/TV page links to your blog post about movies for a snowday.
Is this something that you can fix?
In general, it seems…

My Hero at Home - Turning children into heroes
I need some moms opinions: I'm starting a project where I turn children into their own heroes through cartoons and then making posters where they are the stars of their own stories (from magic to art activities or sports). I think it is a good option to incentive the dialogue between children and parents, and help their self-esteem. As a mother, it makes sense to you? What is the difference between creating a world full of princesses for your daughter where she is just a witnesses or making her part of that world? At least during that phase... please, visit…

Lesbian/bi/transgendered content
2 books by Malinda Lo, "Ash" and "Huntress" are retellings of traditional fairy tales, with an Asian bent to them.
Sarah Waters "Tipping the Velvet", both book and miniseries, show strong representations of lesbian protagonist, as well as being a darned well written story.
"Tomboy" is a great movie about, well, a tomboy...There are actually other movies and books out there that have positive representations of young women who are just coming out, or who are thinking of themselves as different in some way.... Not every lesbian book or movie involves crime/murder/treachery, etc, although it seems like it often enough...1 vote
